Deterministic OpenAPI checks for GitHub

Catch breaking API contract changes before they ship.

CompatBeacon is compatibility monitoring software for teams that maintain OpenAPI contracts on GitHub. The deterministic check is designed to run in the customer’s GitHub runner; raw OpenAPI files stay there by default.

Private validation status: checkout is not active and no paid plan can be purchased from this site yet. Proposed prices below are hypotheses, not evidence of market demand.

How it works

A small, explicit compatibility boundary.

Deterministic findings stay authoritative. Hosted workflow features are optional and receive only consented, allowlisted derived metadata.

Compare locally

The pinned comparison engine runs against the baseline and candidate OpenAPI files in the customer’s runner. Unsupported input fails with an explicit error.

Keep the decision deterministic

Only deterministic findings and a valid, authorized, unexpired waiver may affect pass or fail. Explanatory text cannot change the result.

Add governance when needed

Planned paid workflows add expiring waivers, signed release evidence, redacted history and grounded migration guidance without making raw-spec upload the default.

Verified support boundary

Supported means tested.

CompatBeacon does not treat “OpenAPI 3.x” as a blanket compatibility promise.

Current corpus-admitted version strings

  • 3.0.0
  • 3.0.1
  • 3.0.2
  • 3.0.3
  • 3.0.4
  • 3.1.0
  • 3.1.1
  • 3.1.2

Explicit limitation: support is restricted to version/construct/rule combinations linked to the passing corpus. OpenAPI 3.2, unlisted patch versions, remote or multi-document references and unproved constructs are not supported and must fail explicitly.

Proposed validation pricing

Start local. Add workflow value only when it helps.

These prices are business hypotheses under validation. They are not an offer for sale, a discount, or evidence that customers have paid.

Trust and limitations

Clear boundaries beat broad promises.

CompatBeacon reports contract changes within its tested scope. It is not a certification service and cannot prove runtime behavior.

Deterministic authority

Optional generated explanations are advisory. Removing them does not change the compatibility result, waiver state or signed evidence.

Raw-spec privacy

Raw OpenAPI documents, descriptions, examples, paths, operation identifiers and raw findings stay out of CompatBeacon-hosted infrastructure by default.

No hidden telemetry

This website contains no analytics, session replay, advertising pixel, form, cookie-setting script or third-party asset.
